AI Safety Guidelines for Everyday Users

Simple rules for using AI responsibly, avoiding unsafe requests, and understanding where human review is necessary.

Understand what AI can and cannot do

AI systems generate responses based on patterns in data. They can be useful for drafting, brainstorming, explaining concepts, and organizing information. They can also be wrong, outdated, biased, or incomplete. Important decisions require independent verification.

Do not request harmful content

Avoid requests involving illegal activity, fraud, malware, harassment, hate, sexual exploitation, or instructions for violence. These uses harm people and violate most AI service rules. Use AI for constructive tasks like learning, planning, writing, and analysis.

Be careful with personal data

Do not enter sensitive personal data unless you are sure it is appropriate and allowed. This includes government IDs, passwords, payment details, medical records, private addresses, and confidential work documents.

Do not use AI as a professional authority

AI can explain general concepts, but it is not a doctor, lawyer, accountant, or financial advisor. For medical, legal, tax, financial, or safety-critical questions, consult a qualified professional and use AI only as a starting point for learning.

If you see unsafe behavior, policy violations, or content that may harm others, contact the service operator. Responsible reporting helps keep AI tools useful and safe for everyone.
